Just the other day, I decided to binge watch the Transformers film series (Transformers, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Transformers: Age of Extinction) and there’s one thing that I noticed, only Transformers: Age of Extinction had a clear image about the relationship between cars and mechanics.
In the first film it was Sam Witwicky, a student who got caught in the conflict between Autobots and Decepticons. There was not a single scene exactly related to robots and mechanics. You would only see scientists in Hoover Damn studying the so called “remains” of Megatron. On the second film, theirs is also no interaction between mechanics and alien robots; just a bunch of soldiers, scientists, politicians and a base that’s in a garage with no mechanic in the vicinity.
Even the same thing happened on the third installation – a garage-like base without a mechanic in the scene. Ok… perhaps there are mechanics somewhere but you don’t see them working or interacting with their alien allies/visitors.But everything is different on the fourth film. Finally, a mechanic! Cade Yeager, a responsible ad loving dad/mechanic/inventor who purchased a rusty semi-truck (prime) to sell its parts for his daughter’s tuition. He is the mechanic that ended up not only fixing Prime, but also befriended the Autobots and help saved the world.
Cade Yeager is the only mechanic that has a long interaction with alien robots on the silver screen. And it is also Care Yeager who said the most impressive lines in the Transformer film series. “What do you think being human means? That’s what we do. We make mistakes. Sometimes, out of those mistakes come the most amazing things… When I fixed you, it was for a reward. That was it. That was why. The money! And it was me making a mistake. Without it, you wouldn’t be here. So even if you got no faith in us, I’m asking you to do what I do. I’m asking you to look at all the junk and see the treasure. You gotta have faith, Prime, in who we can be.”
So why am I so obsessed with mechanics in Transformers film series? It is because I grew up watching Transformers cartoon series and the cartoon series has a human mechanic named Sparkplug and he has helped the Autobots plenty times. Moreover, like what most mobile mechanic Denver CO would do, he helps in fixing cars… or in this case… fixing robots that transform into cars.
Also another reason why I am obsessed with mechanics in Transformers film is the fact that mechanics are always necessary when we talk about cars. Even if it is living and “breathing” cars.
